Task 05 · Create WX-FL-005 ~60 min

Design a flyer that doesn’t suck.

Pick either Electrical or Plumbing & heating, then design a one-page A4 flyer that explains the apprenticeship to people your age. Honest, modern, useful.

Watkins HSEQ Academy · Project Brief

The flyer brief

Audience Year 9, 10 & 11 students at your school deciding what to do after GCSEs.
Tone Honest, modern, not a recruitment poster from 1995.
Goal Anyone reading it should be able to say “yes / no / maybe” in 60 seconds about whether this is for them.
Format A4, one sided poster or folded booklet.
Hand in PDF emailed to your HSEQ buddy on your last day.
Time Roughly 60 minutes — ask your buddy if you need longer.

01 Must include

  • What the apprenticeship is called & what level it is
  • How long it takes
  • What you need to get in
  • Salary at the start and the end
  • What you actually do day-to-day
  • One real career path / progression ladder
  • One myth-buster
  • Where to find out more

02 Design tips

  • Hierarchy: one big headline, three big things, then small detail
  • Less is more: if it doesn’t earn its space, cut it
  • Real photos beat stock illustrations every time
  • Two fonts max — one for headlines, one for body
  • Colour: 1 brand colour + black + white is plenty
  • Read it aloud — if it sounds cringe, rewrite it
Real-world stakes

The best flyer goes to print.

The strongest flyer from each placement gets printed and used at our next school careers fair, with your name credited as the designer. So treat this like a real client project — because it is one.

Sent your flyer?

Once you’ve emailed the PDF to your buddy, mark this complete to add the stamp to your punchcard. You don’t need to be done right now — you can come back any time before your final day to mark it off.
