Task 05 · Create WX-HR-05 ~60 min

Advertise your dream job.

Forget Watkins for a minute — what’s your dream job? In this one you’ll work out what that job really takes, then research whether you were right. It’s the exact thinking HR does for every role — pointed at your own future.

Watkins HR · Project Brief

The brief

Your job Pick your dream job. Anything — footballer, game designer, vet, pilot, electrician, YouTuber, CEO. The one you’d love to wake up for.
Step 1 · Reflect Before you Google anything, write down what YOU think that job involves and what it takes. Guess honestly — that’s the point.
Step 2 · Research Now find a real advert or two for that job and see how close your guesses were.
The output Write the job advert for it — one page, as if you were hiring someone for your dream job.
Hand in Show it to your HR buddy before the end of your placement.
Time Around 60 minutes — ask your buddy if you’d like longer.

STEP 1 Reflect first — no Googling!

  • What would you actually do day to day?
  • What skills do you think you’d need? List five.
  • What qualifications or experience get you in?
  • What do you reckon it pays — starting out, and later?
  • Why you? What have you already got that fits?

STEP 2 Now research it for real

  • Find one or two real adverts for the job
  • How close were your guesses? What surprised you?
  • What’s the real route in — apprenticeship, degree, working up?
  • What’s the honest salary range?
  • One thing you didn’t know you’d need
Why this matters

This is how you actually get there.

Knowing what a job really takes — and being honest about the gap between where you are now and where you want to be — is the first real step to closing it. HR does exactly this for every role in a business. Now you’ve done it for the one that matters most: yours. Prefer a real one? You can do this for a live Watkins role instead — just ask your buddy.

Mapped out your dream job?

Once you’ve reflected, researched and written your advert, show your buddy and mark this complete. Keep hold of it — it’s a genuinely useful thing to look back on.
