From the Archives: Watkins 2008 Site Safety Guide

29 April 2026 · By Watkins Academy · 1 min read

A few weeks back, our Executive Chairman Tony Murphy was clearing out a cupboard at our Ramsgate office and pulled out a folded paper booklet. Photocopied. Hand-illustrated. Comic Sans throughout. The cover read “SITE SAFETY GUIDE — Rev—Apr 08” — the version Watkins issued to every operative seventeen years ago, slipped into pockets, kept in every site container.

It’s a beautiful little artefact from the era when Wyn Watkins — the founder’s son — was Safety Manager. Eighteen years on, every principle in it still holds. We’ve digitised the booklet as a flick-through flipbook and put it side-by-side with the modern Watkins Academy tools that carry the same ideas forward.

What our clients say
“
This is the first time I’ve had this experience and I’ve really enjoyed it, learning new information and it helped by being taught in a clear and direct way. I would recommend this course if you want the next step in your working career, improve your skills and knowledge.
Rikki L. SMSTS
“
I enjoyed learning about the different legislation and how in depth health and safety in construction really goes. I feel more confident leaving than I was coming in about my role in the business and where to find different aspects of legislation easily that can assist in my daily role.
Sam T. IOSH Managing Safely
“
I thoroughly enjoyed this course and feel it is going to be beneficial to my company, myself, my family, my friends and members of the general public who need support. Everything was presented and explained in detail. I think the more people that undertake this course creates more mental health awareness to support themselves and other people around them.
